May 8, 2025 - Canyon Lake High School Valedictorian Jacob Tuckness gives us an inside look into his high school experience in a graduation Q+A.
How did you find out you were Valedictorian?
The counselors and administration had a red carpet lined up for the top ten. Each person was called into the office and had their rank announced, afterwards we all got Crumbl cookies. It was really nice to know my rank was official and I don’t have to worry about it anymore; now I can just get ready for the future.
Can you share what your speech is going to be about?
My speech is going to be a lot about priorities. I am involved in a lot of stuff, inside and outside of school, so I think it is important to find a balance between your priorities and fun to ensure you enjoy life.
Describe the entirety of your high school experience in one word.
Memorable.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
Super strength because I am a powerlifter. I could also use it to lift a car and be a hero in the event of an accident, which is really cool.
What's your favorite way to relax?
Go to the gym, play golf, go fishing; just be outside and active, I am a big outdoorsman.
If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be?
Jesus, because I have a lot of questions! I would sit down and ask him about what life is really for, and deep dive into everything I have been learning my entire life. We would eat steak.
Who would you say is your biggest supporter? Why?
My parents. They have pushed me through the past four years, and mostly made sure I kept my sanity. It can be a lot, juggling everything in high school, so they are there for me when I get overwhelmed and remind me that it’s just school and not the end of the world.
If your high school experience was a movie/song, what movie/song would it be?
The Goonies. I have had a bunch of memorable experiences, that you could honestly call adventures, with golf tournaments, powerlifting meets, and bonding with my team at away competitions. We have had a lot of fun!
What are your plans after graduation?
I am going to Texas A&M University to major in finance. I would like to break into investment banking or the private equity industry to eventually become a financial advisor and have my own firm. I am looking forward to joining a church at A&M and being involved in the youth organizations they offer. I would also like to be involved in Aggie powerlifting.
What's a piece of advice you'd give your younger self?
“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around every once in a while you could miss it.” - Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
